Day 2 Toronto. Consider visiting the CN Tower, the world’s tallest free-standing structure, explore the Hockey Hall of Fame, or tour the Royal Ontario Museum. Perhaps take a tour of Casa Loma, a 98-room medieval-style castle complete with towers, an 800-foot tunnel, and secret passages, or take a ferry out to the Toronto Islands. Walk around Toronto Harbor or visit the Toronto Zoo. This evening, perhaps attend a Broadway-style show.
Day 3 Toronto–Ottawa. Today head north for Canada’s capital, Ottawa. Ottawa has been described as one of the most beautiful capitals in the world. Consider visiting the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Stables to experience true Canadian heritage. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 280 Miles/451 Kilometers
Day 4 Ottawa. The day is yours to explore. This multi-cultural city is home to the Royal Canadian Mint, the official residence of the Prime Minister, and the Canadian Parliament, plus more than a dozen national museums and galleries. Walk along the famous Rideau Canal, and end the day in the vibrant Byward Market area.
Day 5 Ottawa–Québec City. Depart for Québec City, the first settlement in Canada. The Old City is as romantic as any on the continent. Because of its history, beauty, and unique stature as the only walled city north of Mexico, the historic district of Québec was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 278 Miles/447 Kilometers
Day 6 Québec City. Experience the charming atmosphere of Québec City by taking a horse-drawn carriage ride and exploring the many unique shops. Perhaps visit the Museum of Civilization or take a short drive to see the spectacular Montmorency Falls, the largest waterfall along the Beaupre Coast.
Day 7 Quebec City–Montréal. Today, travel to Montréal. Discovered in 1535 by Jacques Cartier, Montréal today numbers 3.4 million people and is the largest French-speaking city in North America. Visit downtown and stroll along Sherbrooke Street with its boutiques and museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts. Explore beautiful Mount Royal Park, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted who also designed Central Park in New York City. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 157 Miles/253 Kilometers
Day 8 Montréal–Kingston. Continue traveling south to Kingston, the first capital of Canada. Along the way, perhaps stop in Gananoque, the “gateway to the Thousand Islands.” Take a cruise and explore this spectacular region featuring more than 1,800 islands. Then make the short drive to Kingston. See Fort Henry, a majestic 19th-century British Military Fortress. Discover Canada’s nautical heritage at the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes. Board a riverboat for a dinner cruise tonight. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 178 Miles/286 Kilometers
Day 9 Kingston–Niagara Falls. Today drive to beautiful Niagara Falls. Along the way consider a stop in historic Niagara-on-the-Lake, in the heart of wine country. Continue on to Niagara Falls. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 242 Miles/389 Kilometers
Day 10 Niagara Falls. Today is at your leisure to see the falls and explore the area. At approximately 170 feet high and 2,200 feet wide, the falls are imposing to say the least. Perhaps take a boat ride for a river level view or fly high above in a helicopter. Drive the Niagara Parkway with views of the Niagara River, parks, and picnic areas. Visit the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and see the superb Butterfly Conservatory, which houses more than 2,000 exotic butterflies.
Day 11 Niagara Falls–Toronto. Return to Toronto and drop off your rental car prior to departure. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 79 Miles/127 Kilometers |
