Day 1 Arrival in Boston.
Pick up your car and start exploring or proceed to your hotel.
Day 2 Boston.
An entire day to enjoy Boston. Visit Paul Revere’s House, the USS Constitution, Boston Common, and more. Perhaps visit the Skywalk Observatory at the Prudential Center where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views and interactive exhibits on Boston’s history. Explore the Freedom Trail; shop at Quincy Market. Visit Cambridge and Harvard University, or take a whale-watching cruise. This evening, consider a cruise on Boston Harbor.
Day 3 Boston–Kennebunkport.
Travel into Maine. (Stop in Kittery for outstanding factory outlet shopping!) Visit the summer communities of Kennebunk and Kennebunkport where you can view the seasonal home to former U.S. President George Bush. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 91 Miles
Day 4 Kennebunkport–White Mountains.
Head to New Hampshire and the White Mountains. More shopping at North Conway and then travel through magnificent scenery to Jackson. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 102 Miles
Day 5 White Mountains–Green Mountains.
Drive to the summit of Mount Washington, shop, visit the Flume in Franconia Notch, and then cross the border into Vermont. Perhaps see the “Rock of Ages,” the world’s largest dimension granite quarries, or enjoy a maple tour and tasting at Morse Farm. Visit the quaint village of Stowe, overlooked by Mount Mansfield, before arriving at your home for the next two nights, near Burlington and Lake Champlain. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 86 Miles
Day 6 Green Mountains.
Today drive to Burlington, perched on the banks of Lake Champlain. Visit the Ethan Allen Homestead or perhaps a scenic cruise on Lake Champlain or a visit to Shelburne Museum.
Day 7 Green Mountains–The Berkshires.
Drive south to see the New England village of Woodstock. There is also time to see the scenic Quechee Gorge, New England’s mini Grand Canyon, before arriving in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts. Perhaps visit the Hancock Shaker Village, a restored 19th-century settlement, and then Lenox, summer home of the Boston Symphony. Your final destination is Stockbridge, once home to Norman Rockwell. The Norman Rockwell Museum is worth a visit. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 228 Miles
Day 8 The Berkshires.
The entire day is at your leisure to explore the area further or relax.
Day 9 The Berkshires–Newport.
Before heading to Newport, you may choose to visit Old Sturbridge Village, a living 19th-century museum, or Mystic, Connecticut and Mystic Seaport Museum. Continue to Newport, summer resort of America’s first millionaires. Enjoy a walk around the Newport waterfront area, and learn about the town at the Museum of Newport History. Nearby you can also visit St. Mary’s Church where President Kennedy was married. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 157 Miles
Day 10 Newport.
Perhaps take the scenic 10 Mile Drive and visit one of the many historic mansions in the area. Astor’s Beechwood Mansion, Belcourt Castle, and The Breakers are highlights. While at The Breakers enjoy easy access to the spectacular “Cliff Walk” and experience great architecture mixed with diverse scenery.
Day 11 Newport–Boston.
