Here, experience a dramatic history lesson on the famous witch trials of 1692. Cross the border into Maine. Make sure to stop in a few of the many charming coastal towns and villages in Mid-Coast Maine. Towns such as Wiscasset, “Maine’s Prettiest Village,” offer a picturesque setting on the water with a quaint main street, featuring shops and restaurants. Continue north to Bar Harbor. Take a stroll down West Street, a National Historic District, and see period architecture. Perhaps take a cruise to spot wildlife or enjoy an educational experience on a lobster boat. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 280 Miles
Day 3 Bar Harbor (Acadia National Park). The entire day is yours to explore Acadia National Park, the first national park established east of the Mississippi. Located on the rugged coast of Maine, the park is home to diverse habitats, striking scenery, and a wealth of plant and wildlife. Hike or drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain to enjoy a spectacular sunrise over Frenchman’s Bay. Follow the Park Loop Road for a 27-mile scenic drive, offering access to Thunder Hole, Otter Cliffs, and Jordan Pond.
Day 4 Bar Harbor–White Mountains. Travel west to New Hampshire and the beautiful White Mountains. Perhaps take a train ride up the side of Mount Washington for an unforgettable experience on some of the steepest railway tracks in the world, or take a more relaxing ride through the Mount Washington Valley. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 317 Miles
Day 5 White Mountains–Green Mountains. Today cross the border into Vermont. Enjoy the Green Mountains as you journey to Stowe, a historic village nestled beside Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak. Perhaps ride the gondola to the top for views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains. APPROXIMATE DRIVING DISTANCE: 86 Miles
Day 6 Green Mountains. Today is yours to enjoy at leisure. Relax and take a stroll or rent a bike and ride along the Stowe Recreation Path. Along the way, find picnic and swimming areas and easy access to shopping. Nearby, you can take a tour of the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream factory. Perhaps take a drive west and tour the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory, the largest maker of American-made teddy bears.
Day 7 Green Mountains–The Berkshires. Drive south through more of Vermont’s stunning Green Mountains. Along the way, stop in the quintessential New England village of Woodstock. There's also time to see the scenic Quechee Gorge, New England’s mini Grand Canyon, before arriving in Massachusetts and the gentle Berkshire Hills.
